We aim to comply with accessibility standards on our website.

Complying with standards

This website has been designed to comply, as far as practicable within the limitations of Porirua City Council's current content management system, with the World Wide Web Consortium's Accessibility Initiative and the New Zealand Government's Web Standards.  The website should be viewable in all main browsers on all operating systems, but if you cannot access any feature of our website, please let us know immediately so we can investigate it by phoning (04) 237 5089.  It may be your system does not have the software installed, or you are using a device which is not compatible with certain functionality.

We have installed BrowseAloud, an application that adds speech, reading and translation services.  This helps make our site more accessible to those with print disabilities such as dyslexia, low literacy, mild visual impairments and those with English as a second language.

The application launches from the icon at the top right of your screen on a desktop, or the bottom right hand corner of a mobile screen.

You can customise the look and how it works to suit your own personal preferences.

Update 14 February 2018: BrowseAloud has been temporarily removed while it is updated.
