Moonshine Road slips

We're committed to letting our Moonshine Road residents know the latest on road repairs.

Moonshine Road repairs are finished – thank you.

Moonshine Road Repairs finished

Work on Moonshine Road to remedy slips in the area caused by the 14 and 15 November 2016 rains, and 11 and 12 March 2017 rains are now finished.

These works were designed and undertaken in an evolving wider programme of slip remediation works. The impact of these combined events has been significant and Moonshine Road was part of an ongoing large programme of works. The works took 10 months to complete and covered eight sites – we started mid-December 2016 with five sites and finished up on Friday 20 October 2017.

Scope of the works

We’ve built two steel post retaining walls and six gabion basket walls, along with associated road reconstruction works.

  • 230m of rip-rap
  • 300m3 of imported backfill (or ~50 truck-loads)
  • 112 gabion baskets
  • 6 concrete foundation blocks
  • 20 ground anchors
  •  22 steel posts
  • 470m of timber lagging.

What now?

The work sites have been officially handed back to the Porirua City Roading team who, via their network maintenance contractor (Downer), have responsibility for day-to-day maintenance of the sites.
