The District Plan controls the location of development and its associated form throughout the city as well as helping to protect the environment as the city continues to grow.
The Resource Management Act 1991 requires councils to review their District Plan every 10 years to ensure they are managing their resources and are in line with changes to legislation, national and regional policy statements, environmental standards and other regulation.
We released the draft District Plan objectives and policies for community feedback from the 8th of October to the 30th of November 2018. We ran a series of community workshops during this period in conjunction with the Growth Strategy, and received 93 submissions via email and through the ePlan feedback portal.
Our full draft District Plan was released for community consultation in September 2019. It contains objectives, policies, rules and maps and was released for informal consultation. It has no legal effect until we formally notify the Proposed District Plan in early 2020.
Please see our full draft District Plan page for more information.
