Crunch time to vote

Election ballot boxes

There are just days to go before voting closes in the local body elections.

You have until noon on 8 October to vote for the Porirua mayoralty, Porirua City councillors standing in the Parirua (Māori), Onepoto or Pāuatahanui wards, trustees for Hutt Mana Charitable Trust, and your representatives on Greater Wellington Regional Council.

Porirua deputy electoral officer, Lynlee Baily, says it’s crunch time.

“If those papers have been sitting on your kitchen bench or in a drawer, it’s time to fill them out and help choose the decision-makers for Porirua for the next three years.

“The mayor, city and regional councillors, and Hutt Mana trustees make decisions that impact your life every day – from rates, to the harbour, libraries and the pools, infrastructure, and where millions of dollars are spent – you need to have your say on who those community representatives are.”

Sending your voting papers in is easy. Once you’ve filled them out and sealed them in the envelope, drop them in to one of the orange ballot boxes found at our libraries, near the Council front counter in Cobham Court, and some supermarkets around Porirua.

All election information can be found at poriruacity.govt.nz

If you haven’t received voting papers and want to vote, it’s not too late – contact the Council on 04 237 5089 or pop into our Cobham Court reception to cast a special vote up till noon on 8 October.

Provisional election results will be posted on our website and Facebook page as they become available.
