Assessing cultural issues

Ngāti Toa are a key partner in setting up our processes here at Council

We consult with Ngāti Toa through the iwi authority Te Rūnanga O Toa Rangātira, on a range of issues and processes.

We may also ask applicants for evidence they have consulted Ngāti Toa about their plans for a development or other activity.

Our discussions may lead to a cultural impact assessment being done.

These assessments help us to document Māori cultural values, interests and connections with a resource or area, and to understand the potential impacts of a proposed activity on them.
