Commuter bikes

Across New Zealand, Kiwis are ditching the car and jumping on their bikes to get places and we’re embracing the trend here in Porirua City.

Cycling is becoming a major recreation activity in Porirua and we’re looking to make cycling more popular as a day-to-day transport option. Porirua City is working with the New Zealand Transport Agency to make our cycleways safer and more user-friendly with the multi-million dollar Urban Cycleways Programme.

Bikes and public transport

Many Porirua residents travel by train to Wellington, Hutt Valley, or the Kapiti Coast for work and cycling is a great option to cut down the travel time getting to and from stations.

Bikes can be taken on Porirua trains free of charge or you can rent a cycle locker at the Porirua and Plimmerton Railway Stations to leave your bike safely while you’re at work – for details contact Metlink Contact Centre on0800 801 700 or email [email protected]
