Ngā Whakamaharatanga Pungarehu | Monumental Ashes – this area offers our families two benefits, the headstone can be an upright headstone, meaning greater flexibility to personalise the headstone design and it is also our only ashes area that can hold more than two urns in the plot. The plots can hold up to six urns.

Hīkoi Whakamaharatanga o Pīwakawaka | Pīwakawaka Memorial Walk – offers a natural space for the scattering of ashes. Our cemeteries team will book the scattering with you and then the record of that scattering will be kept on our database forever, honoring the memory of that person for future generations who wish to know where they were scattered.

Memorials

Memorials and headstones are typically provided by a local monumental mason. To find a monumental mason click here. Your monumental mason can provide you with a variety of designs and options to mark your loved ones' burial place.

Whenua Tapu provides a bronze plaque option for two of our memorial spaces:

memorial wall, chapel, whenua tapu

Whenua Tapu Memorial Wall – a plaque can be mounted on our memorial wall by our chapel area, which is beautifully designed like a memorial court, with small gardens planted and seating to sit and reflect. The plaques were removed during our 2021 refurbishment of the chapel and then lovingly replaced onto totara panels within the memorial court.

Baby / Children areas

children's area - whenua tapu 2023

Losing a child can be a hard time for any family. We have created a special place for families to lay them to rest, either as a burial or an ashes burial.

Koreke is our area for this – it has been carefully designed and thoughtfully constructed to provide a peaceful place of solitude for our families as they grieve the loss of their child.

The area is planted with trees and gardens to compliment its design.
