Our Waste Minimisation Grants provide financial assistance for local waste minimisation / reduction initiatives that contribute to reducing waste in Porirua.
Waste minimisation initiatives could include new projects that reduce waste at the source and encourage movement towards a circular economy.
Projects that focus on reduction, redesign, reuse, repair and repurpose will also be considered.
Porirua City Council's priority waste streams and outcomes are outlined in the Waste Management and Minimisation Plan 2023-2029 and our associated Local Action Plan [include links].
The priority waste streams and outcomes are:
{$whenua: There are two tiers of funding available, one allocated annually, and a second that will be granted on a rolling basis.}
Tier 1: Grants of up to $30,000, allocated on an annual basis.
Tier 2: Grants of up to $2000, allocated on a monthly basis.
Applicants for Tier 1 funding must be a legal entity. Community groups seeking a grant of $10,000 or more will need to be under an umbrella agreement.
Tier 2 funding is available to support individuals, businesses, community groups, iwi, schools, and other organisations to undertake waste minimisation projects.
Applications for Tier 1 funding are open from 1 August – 30 September 2025
Applications for Tier 2 funding will be available monthly from 1 August 2025
