Bright minds sought to boost business in Porirua

News business RFP

Porirua City Council wants some innovative thinking to boost business growth in the city.

“We’ve just advertised a Request for Proposal (RFP), seeking proposals from organisations keen to offer services that can help grow existing and new businesses, support entrepreneurs and build social enterprise,” says Darryn Grant, Manager City Growth and Strategic Property.

“The growth of new and existing businesses is booming in the city at the moment and we want to ensure that this continues. Businesses need to have access to new ideas and support that will help them grow and ensure that they remain competitive.

“We’re wanting to appoint one or more providers to deliver business support and development services within Porirua City and this RFP invites innovative thinkers to bring fresh ideas about how these services can be delivered and the types of services provided. We’ll be looking for proposals that highlight new technologies and approaches, build on industry best practice and leverage previous experience.”

In addition to the services that will be offered through this process, the Wellington Regional Economic Development Agency (WREDA) also provides access for Porirua businesses to the Government’s business assistance  programmes and other activities that they deliver and we will be working with WREDA to increase the awareness of these services.

“Our own staff have also delivered or supported a number of initiative approached, including TEDx Salon events, Pop up Business School and Start Up Pacifika, and we now want innovative providers to help us to continue to deliver these types of opportunities.”

He says building business capability, connections and networking in Porirua will be part of the proposal, although services cannot replicate those already provided by MBIE or WREDA.
