As part of the move to online services, we’ve taken the opportunity to review our building consent application’s deposit rates to make sure they cover upfront costs
While the overall cost of a consent will not change, other than the standard annual percentage increase, the deposit rates have been increased to better reflect the costs for this service.
The change was made to make deposits more realistic says Nicola Etheridge, Porirua City Council General Manager Policy, Planning and Regulatory Services.
The deposit goes towards the consent application fees including the Code Compliance Certificate application, an estimate of the amount of officer time it will take to assess the consent and the levies charged by the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment and BRANZ. The minimum number of inspections required for the consent is also included in the deposit.
The old deposit rates weren’t covering these basic costs. The new deposit rates – which are a more realistic cost towards the project – will come off the balance of the invoice payable prior to the issuing of the consent.
The deposit amounts vary for different types of building consents. Details and more information can be found on the building consents page at poriruacity.govt.nz4 Jul 2019
