Alsco officially opened its new regional depot this month, after operating for more than a century from their Petone premises.
“The whole Alsco Petone operation with its 40+ staff has moved over to Porirua and I want to welcome them wholeheartedly to our beautiful city,” says Porirua Mayor Anita Baker.
“We have been working with Alsco for the past two and a half years to help facilitate their move to Porirua and we are delighted that they are now part of our fast-growing Porirua business whānau.”
Mayor Baker says that Porirua is fast becoming a favourite region for businesses who want to expand and have easy access to the region’s infrastructure networks.
“Alsco needed space to expand their business and have better access to the wider Wellington region, and Porirua ticks all those boxes. We have plenty of industrial business premises that are close to all the major roads and Transmission Gully is also a major selling point. It is projected to be finalised by the end of this year and will give Alsco fast and easy access to their distribution network in the region.”
Mayor Baker says that Alsco is planning to expand their business in future, which bodes well for the economic and local job growth of Porirua City.
“I am also heartened by the fact that Alsco has agreed to sign up with Partners Porirua and their Youth 2 Work initiative, a movement which works to connect businesses and unemployed youth to give them a head start,” she says.
Not only did Alsco commit to giving local young talent a chance when they relocated to Porirua, they are also strong ambassadors for the environment, something that Mayor Baker applauds.
“I am hugely impressed about Alsco’s commitment to climate change and their sponsorship of the Million Metres stream project, the country’s only dedicated programme for connecting local waterway restoration with large scale funding and resources. Alsco’s devotion to reuse, recycle and redistribute is a fantastic model that I hope other organisations will follow.”
