Council wrap – 2 October

The final full Porirua City Council meeting of the triennium was held this morning, Thursday 2 October. Here is a wrap of what was covered:

In the public forum a resident spoke about the Wastewater Treatment Plant and Landfill Joint Committee.

The Mayor then reflected on Council’s achievements during the past three years. Council Kaumātua Taku Parai also shared his gratitude for the work Council has done and its ongoing partnership with Ngāti Toa.

Recommendations from the 28 August Te Puna Kōrero and the 18 September Audit & Risk committee meetings were then confirmed.

Next on the agenda, the Council adopted the Annual Report for the year to 30 June 2025, before moving on to officially making the Proposed District Plan operative. You can read more about the District Plan milestone on our news page here.

A report updating phase two of the Resource Management Act reform programme was next. Council were also advised about details of the Resource Management (Consenting and Other System Changes) Amendment Act, which was passed into law in August.

Council then received a report with site-specific designs for the implementation of mandatory 30km/h Variable Speed Limits (VSLs) outside all Porirua schools. They approved designs for the new signs which will now be submitted to the Director of Land Transport for approval, as required under the Land Transport Rule: Setting of Speed Limits 2024.

The final item of business for the current Council was taking care of end of triennium matters. This paper covers how any urgent matters might be managed in the time between the election results being announced and the new Council being sworn in.
