Porirua City Library has come up with another fantastic programme to entertain and expand minds of all ages during the holidays.
Starting tomorrow morning, the Read Around the World school holiday programme is designed to introduce people to stories and art from across the globe.
There is even a chance to get your hands dirty while making clay pinch pots as you listen to stories about how different cultures use pots.
On Wednesday 12 April at 10.30am listen to stories from Japanese authors and illustrators, then recreate Katsushika Hokusai’s famous painting, Under the Wave of Kanagawa, in collage. For all ages.
Get puzzling on Friday 14 April from 9.30am. Join the challenge to complete the puzzle in one day. There will be two 500-piece puzzles competing for completion, with spot prizes of Gecko Press books for the keenest puzzlers. Suitable for ages 5+.
Head to the Pātaka Education Space on Wednesday 19 April at 10.30am to listen to audio stories about magical pots from around the world while modelling a keepsake clay pinch pot to take home. Numbers are limited for this session, and RSVP is essential. Email [email protected] to book a space. Suitable for ages 5+.
Then, on Friday 21 April at 10.30am, learn about some of the iconic female artists depicted in the popular Little People, Big Dreams book series. You can collage your own portrait homage to legendary Mexican painter, Frida Kahlo.
Keen to get outside for some fresh autumn air? Then take part in the free Beach explorer activity at Titahi Bay Beach – part of the Arotahi Titahi Bay Beach project.
Pick up a Beach explorer activity kit from any Porirua library or the Council front counter, and see if you can find the crayon rubbing tiles hidden around the beach.
Rub all eight tiles to reveal the picture, complete the survey and you’ll receive a free family swim pass at Arena Aquatics. Entries close Thursday 20 April.
