Environmental cadets gain permanent roles at Porirua City

Environmental cadets

Our newest senior cadets, Ronaldo (left) and Armani.

Both Armani and Ronaldo have completed their first steps in the Enviromental Cadetship programme and are now senior cadets and permanent members of the Porirua City Council team, thanks to their dedication and leadership throughout their cadetship.

The Environmental Cadetship Programme in eastern Porirua helps local residents like Armani and Ronaldo gain qualifications and on-the-job training. Our cadets have been busy with more than 100,000 native plants set to be planted across Bothamley and Cannons Creek parks.

The programme is a partnership through Te Rā Nui – the Eastern Porirua Development partners: Kāinga Ora, Porirua City Council, and Te Rūnanga o Toa Rangatira - working alongside local skills providers Le Fale, Mahi Toa, and Rāranga Building Careers. Together, we’re creating real job pathways, restoring the mauri of te taiao, and building a stronger future for our people and our place.

The parks team is excited to have two outstanding cadets join their leadership team and grow their careers while helping develop the skills and confidence of those around them.

A huge congratulations and a big warm Porirua welcome to you both, we're happy to have you here.
