news - no parking on grass berms

Parking infringement fines will increase on 1 October, as set by the Government.

These fines are set by government and enforced by councils. Most of the existing parking fines have been in place since 2004.

The most common parking infringements in Porirua include not paying for parking at all, parking longer than the time limit, and parking on a berm.

The increased fines (below) will come into effect from 1 October:
Exceeding the time limit of a paid park $20-$97*
Exceeding the time in a free, timed park $20-$97*
Parking in a timed park without paying $70
Parking on a berm $70
Parking in a restricted area $70
Parking facing oncoming traffic $70
Parking on a bus stop $70
Parking within 6 metres of an intersection $100
Parking on a broken yellow line $100
Parking on a footpath $100
Parking in a mobility park without a permit: $750
* depending on length of time.

Mobility parking

Please be aware that the fine for parking in a mobility space without a permit faces the biggest increase, to $750.

This increase is to reflect a nationwide approach in adopting a zero tolerance approach for this type of offence.
