A pair of innovative Porirua companies could be in line for top honours this week after being nominated at the 2019 Wellington Gold Awards.
The annual awards, that have been running since 1999, celebrate excellence and enterprise in business across the Wellington region, promoting those who have led the way in energising and contributing to the region’s economy.
This year Porirua’s Horizon State and Aspiring Walls have been nominated in the Cyber Gold and ACC Workplace Safety Gold categories respectively.
Horizon State, who are heavily involved in the major Porirua East redevelopment, have been nominated for their innovative secure and anonymous digital ballot box.
The new technology the ballot box uses, known as Blockchain, was recently and successfully used by more than 1400 people in South Australia in electing the five members of the state’s Recreational Fishing Advisory Council.
Aspiring Walls, who have been providing top quality wallpapers to New Zealand homeowners for the past 50 years, has been nominated for their robust health and safety programmes, that ensure all their staff go home safely at the end of the working day.
Porirua City Council General Manager City Growth and Partnerships Steve Perdia, says the nominations were just recognition of the rich vein of business growth and confidence alive in Porirua.
“These two great Porirua businesses are at the leading edge of a wave of business confidence sweeping through our city at the moment.
“These two firms epitomise two of the most important areas for any developing business - technological innovation and ensuring the safety of their staff.
“It’s great to see that there are Porirua businesses flying the flag in these vital areas and for Porirua at these significant regional awards.”
The winners will be announced at TSB Bank Arena on Thursday 25 July.
