It’s been a flying start for the Post Hotel.
The former New Zealand Post building, on Serlby Place, was transformed into a 36-room boutique room hotel that opened its doors in May. It celebrated with an official launch last Thursday.
One of the Post Hotel’s managers, Danielle Warren, says the opening weeks have been incredibly positive, with 100 per cent occupancy rates some weekends and increasing bookings weeknights too.
It was full for the All Blacks and will be for the upcoming Good Vibes music event at Te Rauparaha Arena.
“Porirua is buzzing and we’re happy to be part of this burgeoning city, there are so many great things happening here,” she says.
“Our occupancy rates reflect this.”
Post Hotel has also implemented a special rate for families coming to the city to attend a funeral.
“The first week we opened, we sadly booked many people in due to the passing of a family member,” Danielle says.
“We made great friends with them in this time and it gave us the idea to set a special rate for those going through the incredibly tough time of losing a loved one.”
Council Acting Manager City Growth & Partnerships, Clare Nolan, says having a quality hotel to cater for professionals, families, sports teams and travellers in the city centre, at reasonable rates, is a boon for Porirua.
“We’re really happy to hear how well things are going at the Post Hotel,” she says.
“Our city is maturing and the projected visitor growth we are anticipating over the next three years should see them in a good position – their place in the city centre will help create more demand for services like cafes and other retail opportunities.”
Feedback has been pleasing from customers, Danielle says.
“They’ve been especially kind about the friendly staff and style of the rooms.”
