One of Porirua City’s most popular walking and cycling tracks, Te Ara Utiwai, remains closed.
The 6.1km track, which starts at the Camp Elsdon entrance off Raiha St and winds its way to the top of Rangituhi for a stunning view, has been open to the public since February.
However, work is about to be undertaken to make the track usable for the rest of winter, while further sections of the trail are proposed to be metalled over spring and summer to protect it for the long-term.
It has been closed since early June.
The Council’s Parks Manager Olivia Dovey said, “We’ve had a prolonged period of heavy rain over several weeks and the high usage from walkers, runners and cyclists has turned the track extremely muddy in a number of places."
Te Ara Utiwai will be closed from both ends until late July.
