Thank you to everyone who voted in this year’s local government elections.
For the first time in 12 years more than 40 percent of those enrolled to vote had their say in selecting our Mayor and Councillors for the next three years.
We’re happy to see the numbers rising as it’s so important that our residents have their say in who represents them at the Council table to make decisions about our city.
For those of you who didn’t receive voting papers as you weren’t enrolled, you don’t need to wait until the next election – contact the Electoral Commission (vote.nz or 0800 367 656) and enrol now! You can also check your enrolment information to make sure it’s correct. This will make it much easier for you to have your say in future elections, without the need to cast a special vote.
The elections are run and managed by the Electoral Commission, and they follow very strict processes to make sure all votes are processed and counted accurately. Council is not involved in this side of the process – our role is to encourage as many of you as possible to get involved and vote. So if you need to enrol, do it now!
