We have almost have half a rugby pitch in area, of unique murals across the City in our parks, buildings, and city centre spaces that tell the story of our people, history, culture and environment.

We want to keep these murals fresh and provide regular opportunities for local artists to showcase their work.

As part of our ongoing mural programme, we will be seeking expressions of interest from local artists to renew some of our well-loved existing mural sites. Keep an eye out here for more information or sign up here to be notified when a new wall is put up for re-design. [email protected]

Two stage process

  1. The Asset Manager is the team in Council that manages the Council land or property where the proposed mural is to be installed. They decide if the proposed artwork is suitable for the Council asset. If it is, it goes to Arts Panel Approval.
  2. The Arts Panel Approval is a panel including a representative from Ngāti Toa Rangatira who assess if the art content is suitable for City location.

All proposals will need to be assessed by the Council’s Arts Panel, using the key criteria below:

  • This artwork recognises the significant artistic excellence and achievement of a Porirua artist
  • Ngāti Toa and Porirua residents see their cultures and heritage reflected and enhanced in this artwork
  • Porirua residents experience world class art
  • Public amenity is improved with this artwork.

We look forward to receiving your applications.
