Our strategic priorities

Porirua is already a great place to live, work and raise a family but we need to look to the future. We have identified four priorities that we think are key foundations for the city to succeed.

Our vision

Our vision is that Porirua City is a great place to live, work, and raise a family. To achieve this we have identified community outcomes for our city and the strategic priorities we’ll focus on to work towards achieving those outcomes.

Strategic priorities

The strategic priorities are the things we are focusing on in this LTP. As the needs of our city and the role of Council changes, so will our priorities.

As part of developing the draft Long-term Plan 2024-34 Council revised and endorsed the strategic priorities. They were formally adopted by Council as part of adopting the Long-term Plan 2024-34 on 27 June 2024:

  1. Commit to the health of Te Awarua-o-Porirua Harbour and its catchment through investment, advocacy and regulation
  2. Build towards a low carbon city and proactively address the challenges of climate change
  3. Create thriving communities where everyone can be safe and healthy – at home, work or play
  4. Keep tamariki and rangatahi at the heart of our city

Our community outcomes

The community outcomes are long-term goals for our city. They reflect the four aspects of well-being: social, cultural, environmental, and economic. The role of Council is to provide services to our community and to advocate on topics that matter on our communities behalf. Whether we can directly influence these outcomes or not, as advocates for our community we will seek to improve all aspects of well-being in our city.
