Outcomes sought
  1. Safeguard the historic values of the reserve including protecting its historic remnant earthworks, by removing trees from earthworks and through cautious management of land disturbance, structures and planting. Provide interpretation signage about the heritage of the reserve.

  2. As the reserve has evidence of pre 1900 human activity, an archaeological authority for any subsurface works will be required from Heritage New Zealand.

  3. Maintain the amenity landscape values of the reserve.

  4. Protect the significant natural estuarine lagoon values for healthy ecological functioning, through restoration of the hydrological connections between the lagoon and the harbour, through animal and plant pest management, through ending amenity plantings of exotic plant species, and by discouraging drainage, land disturbance and the introduction of sediment.
