This is a Crown Derived Reserve, excluding Lot 6 DP 23602, Lot 8 DP 61895, Lot 3 DP 62464, Lot 4 DP 74421, Lot 3 DP 79234 and Lot 5 DP 90083.

1. Maintain and where practicable improve the natural character and amenity values of the esplanade reserves, protect historic places and safeguard the values of the adjoining intertidal zone.  Integrate the management and enhancement of the reserves with the implementation of the Porirua Harbour and Catchment Strategy and Action Plan where relevant.

2. Manage as a relatively remote coastal walking opportunity to encourage informal water and shore-based recreation, walking and landscape appreciation.  Maintain the informal, natural and tidally-restricted nature of the route by providing only low key facilities appropriate to the informal, seaside character and pedestrian-only access.

3.  Ensure, through appropriate information and well-designed facilities, that public use of the reserve respects private land.

4.  Promote healthy ecological functioning by plant and animal pest control.

5.  Protect the coastal landscape. As opportunities allow, mitigate the visual appearance of utilities and other structures in the reserves, including removal of rubble. Consider new structures as inappropriate in the reserves unless for the purpose of public utility, public amenity, or land stabilisation.  Ensure that new structures have low visual impact, and have been informed by advice on shoreline ecology and hydrology.  Mitigate or prevent shoreline erosion and sediment impacts on the Pauatahanui inlet, by soft engineering options where possible.

6.  Protect cultural and heritage values through cautious management of land disturbance and structures. Assume that any development on the northeastern half of the peninsula could impact on cultural values.

7. Remedy encroachments so that public use and enjoyment is not impeded. Disallow replacement encroached structures.

8. Manage the marginal strip as an esplanade reserve.
