Outcomes sought1. Protect the natural values of the estuary to achieve a fully functioning, healthy coastal ecosystem, through animal and weed pest control and natural or planted regeneration.
2. Continue to provide coastal open space and facilities for casual recreation, including maintaining and developing the contribution that the reserve makes to Te Ara Piko walking and cycling pathway, and to public access around the Pauatahanui Inlet.
3. Monitor upstream gravel extraction to avoid downstream impacts on the estuary and bridge infrastructure.
4. Consider reclassification to Scenic A.
