Taua-Tapu Track (historic Maori track between Plimmerton and Pukerua Bay) the track was considered tapu as it was used by many war parties.

GWRC Key Native Ecosystem. Series of valleys and hills behind Karehana Bay with several remnants of tawa kohekohe forest, some of which have emergent podocarps and pukatea. The remnants are adjoined and often buffered by areas of kanuka-manuka scrub.

1. Manage as two zones:

Natural Zone (A) and Amenity Zone (B) (Taua Tapu track).

2. Encourage recreation by providing signage indicating recognised access points to the reserve and pathways.

Natural Zone A:

3. Protect the significant natural values of the reserve to promote healthy ecological functioning and connections, and to protect seed sources for Mana Island restoration, through on-going animal and weed pest control and through regeneration.

4. Encourage bush walking recreation opportunities, through the provision of pathways and other appropriate facilities.

Amenity Zone B (Taua Tapu Track):

5. Protect historic and cultural heritage values relating to the historic Maori pathway, through cautious management of land disturbance and structures.

6. Maintain the pathway connection to Airlie Reserve through the reserve and by the easement over private land.

7. Allow horse riding on the Taua Tapu track.

8. Continue to encourage walking, cycling and horse-riding recreation opportunities, through the provision of shared pathways and other appropriate facilities.

9. Prohibit dogs from the zone during lambing.
