Vegetation and riparian area.  This stream has very high freshwater ecosystem values including a diversity of native fish species. The upper reaches provide habitat for further fish species that migrate along the stream to and from the sea.

Potential for walking.

This is not a Crown Derived Reserve. Vested as part of Porirua Hospital land disposal in 2011.

Utilities (Minor): Stormwater.

1. Protect the natural values of Mitchell Stream and its environs through weed control, and by nurturing and improving on previous revegetation work, including additional planting to; increase the riparian area where possible, reduce streambank erosion, and to improve stream shading as well as amenity values.

2. Protect the green open space as a buffer to future development in the vicinity.  Maintain options for future pathway extension and greenspace development within the reserve, including securing improved 'walkway to road' connections as funding and opportunities arise.
