Outcomes sought
  1. Protect the natural values to achieve a fully functioning, healthy coastal ecosystem, through animal and weed pest control and natural or planted regeneration.

  2. Safeguard the significant historic, cultural, open space and landform values of the reserve, through careful management of any activity involving land disturbance or structures. Undertake an archaeological assessment of the site before any significant development is proposed.

  3. As the reserve has evidence of pre 1900 human activity that for any subsurface works, including removal of vegetation, then an archaeological authority will be required from Heritage New Zealand.

  4. Provide a short-stay camping opportunity for self-contained camping vehicles.

  5. Continue to provide coastal open space, pathway and amenity facilities for casual recreation and access to the coast, including maintaining the contribution that the reserve makes to Te Ara Piko walking and cycling pathway, and to public access around the Pauatahanui inlet. Control vehicle access to beach.

  6. Continue to prohibit dogs from any part of the reserve in summer daylight hours, by notice.  At other times dogs on a leash are allowed.
