JC36, Tapu Site. This was an important Ngati Ira settlement, as evidenced by various structural remains and middens. In the 1820’s Ngati Toa took control of the area. Te Rangihaeata established a fighting pa, and in 1846 Fort Strode was established.
In WWII Motukaraka Point hosted a US Marine camp.

Small salt marsh strip. Varying dominance of vegetation type on mudflat margin.
Recreation valuesThis is a Crown Derived Reserve.
