Outcomes sought

Protect ecological, hydrological, and recreational connections to Gear Homestead and Aotea subdivsion reserves. Secure land between Okowai Reserve, Gear Homestead and the Aotea subdivision.
Protect the natural lagoon values. Improve the ecological functioning of the lagoon over time, through active restoration. Improve the quality of water draining to the reserve through careful land management. Extend the raupo wetland plantings as opportunities allow, for erosion reduction, water quality, fish spawning habitat, and amenity values.
Maintain the reserve value as a seedbank, for eco-sourcing of wetland seed species.
Protect the natural open space landscape values through cautious management of land disturbance and structures.
Improve recreation enjoyment of the reserve by improving the pathway as funding allows, restricting public access in areas where this is specifically necessary for ecological protection.
Provide play space in area adjacent to John Burke Drive.
Maintain access to the shared pathway, from the play space.
