This is a Crown Derived Reserve, excluding Lot 10 DP 32117, Lot 18 DP 32117, Lot 7 DP 32117, Lot 42 DP 18576, Pt Lot 8 DP 8267, Sec 1 SO 37183, Sec 2 SO 37183, Sec 3 SO 37183.

Subject to 1980 Watercourse Agreement with Greater Wellington Regional Council.

The Te Ara Tawa pathway traverses this reserve and part of KiwiRail land. There is an unregistered easement to PCC for the section of the pathway on KiwiRail land.

Sec 1 SO 493669 was purchased for Te Ara Tawa Pathway.

The names Porirua Stream Esplanade Reserves - north, Porirua Stream Esplanade - south have been gazetted in gazette notice 2019-In812.

Outcomes sought
  1. Protect the natural values of Porirua Stream and its environs for biodiversity and healthy ecological functioning, through weed control and revegetation. Develop a restoration plan for the stream environment.

  2. Increase the planted riparian area where possible for erosion reduction, fish spawning habitat, and amenity values.

  3. Provide safe walking opportunities and take opportunities to improve cycle/walking pathway connections between Tawa, Kenepuru and the Porirua harbour estuary, as occasions arise.

  4. Develop amenity features and facilities to enable people to enjoy the reserve, in accordance with the Porirua City Centre Revitalisation plans. 

  5. Continue to co-operate with Greater Wellington Regional Council on flood risk and stream management including, allowing Greater Wellington Regional Council to access and maintain watercourses for the purposes of flood hazard management. Consider further utility use of the reserve as inappropriate for the reserve.

  6. Maintain liquor ban.

  7. Complete transfer of ownership of the NZTA land adjacent Drainage Reserves from New Zealand Transport Agency to Porirua City Council and reclassify as Local Purpose Reserve (Esplanade).
