Coastal wetland area has high ecological values considered rare within Porirua, and significant within the Wellington region. Shore puha - Sonchus kirkii was found growing amongst the storm debris, but its continuing survival on this stretch of coastline is tenuous. Its threat status is now classified as regionally rare due to competition from faster growing weed species. High natural amenity values due to proximity to coast and relatively undeveloped character.
Coastal turf is categorised as a Nationally Critical ecosystem as it is not only naturally rare but also severely reduced in extent. Rocky Bay contains the largest area of this highly valuable habitat type in Porirua.
Recreation valuesDiving and Fishing.
