A summer of free events for Porirua

Summer concert dancing

There are lots of free events to kick your heels up at this summer.

As summer begins and the holiday season draws near, make sure to pop these dates in your calendar for some free fun events around our city.

Christmas festivities begin on Thursday 7 December with the Kirihimete Night Market, running 5–8pm at a Pātaka Art + Museum and Te Rauparaha Park.

Support our community artisans while finding gorgeous gifts, enjoy something from the food trucks as well as free entertainment and activities for the whole whānau.

Then get your festive gear on for our free Carols in the Park Christmas sing-along at Te Rauparaha Park on Saturday 16 December, 5.30-8pm.

The songs will be led by Nick Tansley and friends. Entertainers will be out and about in the crowd, there will be plenty of room to dance, or bring a blanket and enjoy a picnic dinner. If the weather packs in, the event will be held inside Te Rauparaha Arena.

On Tuesday 19 December there’s a free Block Party at Te Manawa, between 10am-4pm. Nick Tansley will be back again with his Christmas carol caravan, the Phoenix women’s team will also be there with mascot Nixie, as well as lots of fun activities for all ages.

Once the buzz of Christmas has been and gone, get ready for a long Wellington Anniversary weekend of live music and dancing as part of our free Summer Concert Series, running 6–8pm each night between 19–22 January at Aotea Lagoon.

Catch The Blueprint on Friday night, the Satisfactions on Saturday, The Shenanigans on Sunday and Shaun Preston on Monday.

Finally, plans are underway for another fun-filled Waitangi Day event, with free live music and performances, activities, and stalls.

“Events like these are what makes our city the great place it is to live,” says Porirua Mayor Anita Baker.

“We encourage people to get out with their family and friends for some good times to celebrate summer.”
