Porirua art lovers are being encouraged to open their wallets over the next two weeks, to help improve the lives of newborn babies.
Charity Little Sprouts, that puts together boxes of supplies for mothers of newborn babies to use, is holding a fundraising art auction and exhibition at Porirua’s Pātaka Gallery + Museum.
Little Sprouts National Manager Jo Alderdice said it was hoping to raise more than $15,000 to fund hundreds of life-changing baby boxes.
“We have filled Pātaka’s Bottle Creek Gallery with more than 80 artworks that will go on display this Friday.
“They will be on show for the next two weeks before a Grand Auction Evening in the Spine at Pātaka on Saturday 27 October.
“Every artwork has been donated by artists from the Wellington region, with the funds from each piece sold going towards the work of Little Sprouts.
“From original paintings and limited edition prints to ceramic and textile art, there is something for everybody and every price range. Even Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has donated an artwork.”
Pātaka Director Reuben Friend said it was proud to support such an important community event.
“We feel a close connection to our local and regional community, and always look to play our part in supporting events that further the cause of such worthwhile organisations as Little Sprouts.
“It’s a privilege to host so many great pieces of art from across the Wellington artistic community, all being sold to help support our next generation.”
Alderdice said given that there were a limited number of tickets for the event, priced at $40, people were being encouraged to buy early and avoid missing out.
She said every three tickets sold funded one complete baby box, making the event a real opportunity for people to support a great cause.
“If folks can't come to the auction they can also leave bids on the auction pieces with the reception at Pātaka.
“There are also dozens of other works also for sale during the exhibition.”
