Change proposed to Porirua Stream land use

Porirua Stream

The City Delivery Committee today recommended that Council reclassify 11 parcels of land alongside the Porirua Stream as reserve.

The land is currently classified as drainage says City Delivery Chair Anita Baker. “Changing the purpose of the land from drainage to reserve under Section 14 of the Reserves Act 1977 will mean that it can be more appropriately managed,” she says.

“The 11 parcels of land are currently held under a variety of acts and classifications, which makes it difficult to manage and time consuming to track. It’s also meant that any outstanding agreements about flood protection management between Greater Wellington Regional Council and Porirua City haven’t been able to be actioned.”

Under the Reserves Act, there’s a one month public notification period once an application has been made. More information is available at the Council’s administration building and at Porirua Library. After any objections have been heard Porirua Council will approach LINZ to have the land reclassified.
