Council’s Te Puna Kōrero Committee is the main committee responsible for implementing the city’s strategic direction and framework. It usually meets fortnightly.
There was a full agenda for this morning’s meeting, with the committee hearing oral submissions on Council’s Class 4 Gaming Machines & TAB Venues Policy Review.
A total of 89 submissions were received during the consultation, and 16 submitters wanted to make an oral submission. At this morning’s meeting, the committee received the report and heard some of the oral submissions, with the rest to be heard at later dates. Deliberations and decisions on the review will take place at the meeting of 16 November.
The committee also received and agreed to adopt two first-ever strategies for key communities in Porirua. One is Maungaroa 2050 – the Māori Strategic Plan for Porirua City. The other is Ola Kamataga – Beginning of Life 2024-2027: Pacific Strategy for Porirua City Council. Both strategies have been developed over the past year in partnership with Council and community groups in the city. You can read more about them here.
The final three items on the agenda were Council policies that need to be consulted on in preparation for the Long-term Plan review, which takes place next year. The committee received reports and agreed to carry out consultation on the Significance and Engagement, Revenue & Finance, and Rating policies.
In the public forum this morning Liz Kelly and Caroline Mareko spoke about Creekfest.
