Te Puna Kōrero Committee is the main committee that makes decisions about the city’s strategic direction and framework. It is made up of the Mayor, all councillors and the Council Kaumātua.

First up at today's meeting, the committee received a report on the proposed Alcohol Fees Bylaw and heard one oral submission from Alcohol Healthwatch.

After some initial questions and discussion, Councillor Geoff Hayward introduced an amendment to adopt to recover the costs over three years, with the intention of 95% cost recovery.

The amendment was not voted through, with the committee going on to adopt the recommended option, which will see the cost of alcohol licensing fees increase gradually over three years, so they are no longer subsidised by ratepayers.

The committee then approved road closures in Cannons Creek for the next six Pacific Night Market events, which occur once a month on a Friday evening in the Te Akapuanga Kuki Airani Hall on Bedford Court.

Finally, the committee received a progress update of the Vacant Land / Empty / Derelict Building commercial differential rate category. They agreed that properties at 17 Hartham Pl in the CBD and 10 Bedford Court in Cannons Creek can be moved into this category, meaning that they will be charged a different rate until improvements are made to the properties.

Finally, the committee confirmed the minutes from their meeting on 6 June.
