Te Puna Kōrero is the main committee that makes decisions about the city’s strategic direction and framework. It is made up of the Mayor, all councillors and the Council Kaumātua.

In the public forum this morning, representatives from the Pāuatahanui Residents’ Association spoke about an area of land in their community planned to be declared as land reserve.

The related item was moved to the top of the agenda, where the committee approved several parcels of land to be declared as land reserve in Kenepuru, Plimmerton, and Pāuatahanui. The parcel of land on Paekākāriki Hill Rd that was mentioned by the Pāuatahanui Residents’ Association was withdrawn from the decision report, with further discussion to be held later.

Next, the committee adopted Porirua City’s Welcoming Plan. The aim of the plan is to create stronger community connections and a sense of belonging for the multitude of cultural groups that live in Porirua. Read more about the plan here.

The committee then received the Dog Control Annual Report, which covers dog control activities in the 12 months to 30 June. Of note was that almost 98 per cent of known dogs are now registered – with only 129 known unregistered dogs for this reporting period, down from 1065 at the start of the reporting year. The team has focused on increasing engagement and education on the importance of registering dogs.

Finally, the committee received a report on Council’s work progress against its strategic priority of building towards a low-carbon city and proactively addressing the challenges of climate change. The report covers progress in this area in the 12 months to 30 June.
