Te Puna Kōrero is the main committee that makes decisions about the city’s strategic direction and framework. It is made up of the Mayor, all councillors and the Council Kaumātua.
Today’s Te Puna Kōrero meeting was the final one for 2024. After confirming the minutes from the previous meeting, the committee approved temporary road closures to allow for Waitangi Day and Anzac Day events to happen safely.
The Waitangi Day road closures will be in the CBD area on 6 February 2025 and the Anzac Day road closures will occur in Rānui, the CBD and Titahi Bay on 25 April 2025.
Next on the agenda, the committee agreed for consultation to be carried out on the Keeping of Animals Bylaw.
The bylaw aims to set clear guidelines for people keeping animals, bees, and poultry on their properties to help ensure their animals do not create nuisance to others. Consultation on this will run between 3 December 2024 – 10 February 2025.
The committee then agreed to also conduct public consultation on the review of the Local Alcohol Policy (LAP). This policy aims to reduce alcohol-related harm in Porirua. There are three different amendments proposed for the LAP. Consultation on it will run between 3 December 2024 – 7 March 2025.
Finally, the committee received two updates on Council operations – first the financial report for the three months to 30 September, and finally the major project report for the same period.
There were no speakers in the public forum.
