A meeting of the full Porirua City Council was held this morning, Thursday 21 August. Here is a wrap of what was covered:
The Mayor highlighted some of her activities since the last full Council meeting before recommendations from the previous Te Puna Kōrero meeting were confirmed.
The main part of today’s meeting was the Council’s formal adoption of the joint Water Services Delivery Plan (WSDP) for the Wellington metropolitan area.
The adoption also involved endorsing the draft Constitution, the draft terms for the Partners’ Agreement, the principles for the development of the Statement of Expectations, and the principles for assisting the new entity – currently called Metro Water – to develop a customer charter.
All councils are required to submit a WSDP and an implementation plan to the Department of Internal Affairs by 3 September. In June, Porirua City Council formally agreed to jointly establish and co-own a new water organisation with Upper Hutt City Council, Hutt City Council, Wellington City Council and Greater Wellington Regional Council.
The councils will transfer all their assets, debt, liabilities and services in relation to drinking water, wastewater and stormwater to Metro Water by 1 July 2026.
