A meeting of the full Porirua City Council was held this morning, Thursday 26 September. Here is a wrap of what was covered:
First up, minutes from the last Council meeting were confirmed.
Porirua Mayor Anita Baker then spoke about what she’d been up to during the past month, including attending the Paremata Residents’ Association meeting; the Waka Ama Street blessing with 10 new Kāinga Ora homes in Cannons Creek; Porirua City Football Club’s prizegiving, swearing in 61 new Porirua citizens; the Porirua Youth Awards; the blessing of five new Kāinga Ora homes on Mexted Cres in Rānui; a What’s Outside The Box event for students with disabilities; opening of the Plimmerton Croquet Club’s season; the Pacific Connection choir showcase; the Porirua Brass Band AGM; events for Te Wiki o te Reo Māori; blessing of the Freeman Roofing building in Kenepuru; the launch of a group for Pacific women; opening of the Whitby Bowling Club’s season; presenting awards for Porirua’s Got Talent; Chinese Language Week; a flag raising for International Week of Deaf People, and finally she acknowledged more new businesses opening up in Kai Tahi and encouraged residents to head along to check it out.
After agreeing to recommendations from different committees since the last meeting, the Council heard about the proposed changes to the Resource Management legislation proposed by the Government.
Council then agreed that submissions can be prepared by the Chief Executive on government and regional changes proposed in the legislation that might affect the efficiency of the Proposed District Plan.
