A meeting of the full Porirua City Council was held this morning, Thursday 30 November.
Here is a wrap of the meeting:
Mayor Anita Baker covered her activities since the last Council meeting in October, including attending Tokelau Language Week, Pātaka Art + Museum’s 25th anniversary celebrations, Aotea College’s prizegiving, Porirua Little Theatre’s latest show, a citizenship ceremony with 27 families welcomed, the Airport Awards, joining the Director General of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission on a private tour of Porirua Cemetery, the launch of Whānau Manaaki Kindergarten’s new programme, and presenting awards to the winners of ChoctoberFest.
After confirming the recommendations from committee meetings held since the last Council meeting, Council then heard submissions on the Rating Policy Review. There were 20 submissions on this paper and five of them were heard orally at the meeting. A decision on this review will be made at a later date.
Following the oral submissions, Council received a report on Deed changes for the Hutt Mana Charitable Trust and agreed to submit on the proposed changes to the Deed of the Trust.
Next on the agenda, Council approved the Proposed District Plan (PDP) and the Intensification Planning Instrument (IPI). The PDP was initially notified in 2020 and the IPI was notified as Variation 1 in 2022 following direction from Central Government to enable more medium- and high-density housing in all metro council district plans.
The District Plan acts as a rulebook for development. The new plan aims to enable growth and future resilience for the city, while protecting the cultural, environmental, and historic values important to Porirua.
Paul Swain, deputy chair of the Hutt Mana Charitable Trust, spoke in the public forum about the report on Deed changes for the Hutt Mana Charitable Trust.
