Discover summer fun in Porirua

The Shenanigans

Summer in Porirua means fun events and festivals, live music, craft stalls, activities for the littlies and long, hot days enjoying the outdoors.

And although we live for the lazy days of the warmer months, we know it can rain from time to time in summer, so there’s plenty to keep everyone happy with indoor activities too!

Summer events

Cobham Court will be getting into the festive spirit the week before Christmas with crafting stations, face painting, appearances from Santa and Christmas carols with Nick Tansley.

From January, our city will come alive with the Battle Hill Farm Day, Eat, Drink & be Crafty and community snorkel days, which are all back on in Porirua this summer.

We’ll be celebrating Wellington Anniversary Weekend with great music at our free Summer Concert Series at Aotea Lagoon. Prepare yourself for four consecutive nights of performances between 20-23 January from The Blueprint, The Beatgirls, Shaun Preston, and The Shenanigans. Don’t forget to wear your dancing shoes!

Then gather your whānau to celebrate Waitangi Day at Te Rauparaha Park and Pātaka on 6 February. There’ll be live music and performances, tasty kai, and lots of fun, free activities. You can even experience paddling a waka on Te Awarua-o-Porirua.

And in early March there's more free fun planned to celebrate Parks Week.

And if it rains…

Yes, summer can throw some crazy weather our way. But don’t worry, there are loads of indoor options if you need to get out of the house.

Head to the Aquatic Centre for some indoor, heated swimming fun, explore the beautiful exhibitions at Pātaka, or take the tamariki along to one of the many activities as part of our libraries holiday programme.

Porirua also has on offer movies, indoor amusement playgrounds, go-karting, ten-pin bowling, and VR gaming.

We love being spoilt for choice!
