Johnston Ebbett Holden is shifting through the gears like Porirua’s economy.

The Porirua dealership is expanding its dealership in the city, with sod turned on a new site in Heriot Drive on Tuesday by Porirua mayor Mike Tana and the company’s managing director David Johnston.

The new site will be 6000sqm and is expected to open in December.

The workshop will double in size and there will be nine workshop bays instead of the current five, three grooming bays, extra showrooms and offices, and the ability to display more than 100 cars – about 75 used and more than 25 new.

The sod-turning comes just days after the official opening of Turners Cars nearby.

Mr Johnston said he jumped at the opportunity to expand the business, which is currently sited on the edge of the MegaCentre, next to VTNZ.

The new dealership will have a larger footprint than what Johnston Ebbett Holden has in Wellington City.

“Our dealership in Porirua has always punched above its weight but we’ve outgrown the existing site,” Mr Johnston said.

“This is well overdue and we wanted more room for our used car operation. We’re very excited to be moving to the new spot and continuing to service our current and potentially new customers in the city.

“We believe in what’s happening in Porirua and there seems to be a constant move in a positive direction with the economy – it’s exciting times.”

Mayor Tana said it’s yet another example of a company investing in its business in Porirua, and growing to meet local demand.

“The city continues to expand and a business like Johnston Ebbett Holden has recognised this,” he said.

“They’re a fantastic company that has grown a solid customer base in the city and we wish them all the best in this expansion. It’s a real vote of confidence in Porirua.”
