Need funding for a youth project in Porirua? Grants process now open.

Young people - 2

Porirua City Council wants to support local organisations with projects that build capabilities of children and young people living in our city.

Grants of up to $3,000 are available and the latest funding round is now open. It closes on 21 January 2020 (after Wellington Anniversary Weekend) and decisions will be made by the end of February 2020.

Who can apply?

If a project benefits young people living in Porirua (25 and under) then you can apply.

What’s the criteria?

Basically, a project must do something good for children and young people. This fund is all about supporting new ideas, activities and innovative projects.

The following criteria will be used to review applications:

  • how the project develops young people’s skills and knowledge
  • how the project addresses an issue or concern that is important to children and young people
  • how the project benefits the community and environment
  • who else is involved in the project to help make it successful

How are applications assessed?

Applications will go through a process, which includes being assessed by a group of young people. The final decision will be made by the Grants, Awards and Events subcommittee. They will be in touch with applicants throughout the process and if need be, follow up with questions about an application.

When they assess an application, they will consider the following:

  • how young people have helped develop the proposed idea and how they will work with the applicant throughout the project
  • the applicant’s overall experience of working with young people
  • how many young people will be reached and how the project will empower them

What’s unlikely to be funded?

  • things that have already happened
  • projects that promote religious, ethical, commercial or political views
  • travel costs (unless it can be shown to be a vital component of children and young people engaging in the idea/project)
  • projects involving people over the age of 25
  • projects that don’t benefit young people living in Porirua
