Porirua’s Mayor Mike Tana officially opened Turner cars new regional facility on Porirua’s John Seddon Drive today
“It’s great to welcome another growing business to Porirua City. I’m really excited about the investment that’s taking place here and this $4 million build is another example of the confidence businesses have for future opportunities in Porirua.
Turners location means they and their customers have easy access to the Porirua City Centre and other amenities. There will be 30 staff located at the new facility and Turners will be able to recruit from the local community and get involved in the local Youth to Work Programme,” says Mayor Tana.
“Our city is experiencing an upsurge in business and investment interest – a positivity which one media this week described as ‘the stars aligning for growth’, so we can truly say that business is booming in Porirua.”
Turners is the largest used car company in New Zealand and has been a trusted go-to for people buying and selling cars for over 50 years.
Turners CEO Greg Hedgepeth says the new site is capable of holding 550 vehicles and features a state-of-the-art car wash that’s environmentally friendly with swales to retain and treat storm water and car wash machine recycles water to be used in the next cycle on the wheels.
He says the Porirua hub is now Turners’ centralised operations and sales location for the Wellington region with smaller satellite retail sales yards to come in the near future.
“Having a centralised operation in Porirua means we can easily access our outer branches and deliver a better customer experience. We have better capabilities, better cars and better prices.”
He praised Porirua City Council for being ‘open for business’.
“It’s been great to be able to work closely with the Porirua Council who have been nothing but helpful on this journey.”
Darryn Grant, Porirua City Council Manager City Growth and Strategic Property says there have been synergies between Porirua City and Turners throughout the 18 month journey towards the Turners’ opening.
“Porirua has been able to offer the area of land they required at an affordable price. Porirua is strategically placed for the greater Wellington region and the Lower North Island,” Mr Grant said.
Mayor Mike Tana predicted Turners would be the first of several nationwide operators to recognise how Transmission Gully has improved connections with Porirua City to become a strategic gateway for the entire region.
