Trail 10 mountain bike track opens on Te Ara a Rangituhi

Trail 10

Trail 10 has opened on Rangituhi in Porirua.

Porirua City Council is pleased to open the newest mountain bike trail on Te Ara a Rangituhi, in Porirua’s western hills.

The trail’s interim name is Trail 10 which is its number in the proposed Porirua Adventure Park development, which is going through resource consent and DoC concession processes at the moment, Parks Manager Olivia Dovey says.

Trail 10 is just over 1km long, starts adjacent to the Rangituhi Lookout and joins with the existing Chimney Sweep trail. The top of Trail 10 connects with the Te Ara Utiwai shared walking/uphill MTB track - this means that cyclists who ride to the top of Te Ara Utiwai no longer have to ride down the 4WD vehicle track to descend back to Raiha Street.

Project Manager Phil Royle says, "Trail 10 has spectacular views and took three months to build. It was built by Southstar Adventures Ltd, who have developed a number of MTB tracks around the country."

New Mana Cycle Group President Rob Lawrence says that he is really looking forward to riding the new trail.

Trail 10 will be open this weekend (December 8).
