Porirua City Council is doing some research on District Plan car parking requirements and a survey to better understand how car parking is used in the city centre.
Bryan Patchett Council’s General Manager City Growth and Partnerships says this research will help develop car parking requirements for the District Plan and support the revitalisation of the city centre.
“We’re looking at how to make it easier for developers to contribute to the vibrancy of the city with car parking requirements that encourage this. At the same time, we want to make it easier for locals and visitors to find parking and support businesses in the city centre.”
Mr Patchett says the survey will be analysing the current state of car parking in the city centre and will be undertaken in early August 2018.
During the survey, surveyors will be doing both perception and behaviour surveys.
“They’ll be looking at the nuts and bolts of number of parks, how full those parks are, the length of stay etc, along with talking to people about why they are parking in the city and choosing to park where they do.”
The work is planned in early August at different times of the day in the city centre. Industrial areas will also be surveyed for the number of on-street spaces (Elsdon/Prosser Street/Mohuia Crescent/Raiha Street, Kenepuru Drive).
