Wheels and feet, but no paws in Scenic Reserve

Te Ara Utiwai track walker

Porirua’s popular new track, Te Ara Utiwai, is reopening this weekend after a temporary closure to put extra gravel on the top section before winter.

As a friendly reminder, dog owners are reminded that this track, like others on Rangituhi, are part of Porirua Scenic Reserve so no dogs are allowed, either on or off leash. This is a sensitive ecological area, so it’s important to protect and preserve these values.

Animal control officers will be doing checks from time to time in Porirua Scenic Reserve to make sure the rule is being respected.

The 6.1km shared cycling and walking track to Rangituhi’s summit opened in March and has become a popular trail for mountain bikers, walkers and joggers.

Environmental advisors played an important role in the track’s design and construction, to make sure it was developed and is then managed in a way that respects the environment.
