This event demonstrated a true partnership approach with the community, delivering a whanau-friendly Waitangi event. The team stood out for their creativity, inclusiveness and outstanding engagement. Not only was the 2024 event well executed, the long-term budgeting and planning for future events was noted as exceptional.

The award was given to Whenua Tapu last year, after mystery visits from experienced judges. The accreditation is overseen by Recreation Aotearoa and is seen across the country as a benchmark standard for a recreation area.

Porirua City Council|Customer Service Award (ALGIM) 2023

Our hard-working Customer Services team was recognised with a trans-national award. Recognised by the Association of Local Government Information Management (ALGIM) as the top in New Zealand and Victoria (Australia), beating out 80 other councils’ contact centres.

2020 - At the Heart of our City

At the Heart of Our City: Strategic Framework for Children & Young People in Porirua won the SOLGM - Tompkins Wake Award for Better Policy & Regulation


  • 2018: Te Rauparaha Arena wins Venue of the Year - won the Medium Venue of the Year (1001 to 4999 seats) at the 2018 Entertainment Venues Association of New Zealand annual awards
  • 2016: Supreme Business Awards - Downer, the main contractor for Porirua City Council Find out more
