Committee wrap - 7 March 2024

There were two meetings this morning – Council’s usual Te Puna Kōrero Committee and an extraordinary full Council meeting. Te Puna Kōrero Committee is the main committee responsible for implementing the city’s strategic direction and framework. It usually meets fortnightly.

First on the agenda, the committee approved several small plots of land within different subdivisions in Porirua to be declared as reserve land. This includes areas in Whitby, Aotea, Kenepuru Landing, and Silverbrooke.

Second, the committee was asked to consider whether to appeal KiwiRail and Radio New Zealand’s (RNZ) decisions on the designations in the Proposed District Plan (PDP).

The designations are related to areas in Porirua where these two organisations operate, such as the North Island Main Trunk rail line for KiwiRail, and the land on Whitireia Peninsula where RNZ has its AM radio tower and other operating facilities.

After a few questions and discussion, the committee went with the recommendation not to appeal the decisions.

Straight after this, the committee moved into their full Council meeting, where they approved updates to the Revenue and Financing Policy.

There were no speakers in the public forum.
