Porirua Libraries available online, at home

Library

Listen to great stories in the comfort of your own home.

We know how important libraries are to many people and we want our Porirua community to know they can still connect with the service, even during the lockdown.

Porirua Libraries have an interactive website and Facebook page that has plenty of information available to the public.

Brian Anderson, Manager City Libraries, says it’s important that the library system is up and running, even in these extraordinary times.

“More than ever we have to be present for our community while they’re in isolation – our buildings’ doors might be closed, but that doesn’t mean our service, which so many rely on, is closed as well,” he says.

“We’re on hand for advice, information and for access to the entertaining world that books and other resources provide – we encourage our community to reach out to us, so we can serve you in your own homes.”

Some of what you can enjoy online at the moment includes the classic book series and photos of where our librarians are, along with all the important information such as borrowing electronic and audio books, accessing databases and research tools like Lynda.com, encyclopedias, dictionaries and history, newspapers and magazines, genealogy information, and even telephone books.

For our younger members, check out Bee Trudgeon’s Story Time and other fun things to keep the kids amused under ‘Collections’ on the library webpage – porirualibrary.org.nz

We can process your membership or answer any other questions - email [email protected] or drop us a message on Facebook.

Don’t forget that during the lockdown extended loan periods for any items currently on loan are in place, and fines and charges are waived.
